CTSi Offers IT Security Training

Addressing Your Greatest Threat

You have anti-virus software. Maybe you are a PSA customer of CTSi and have 24-hour predictive monitoring to keep your system current and secure. WHY should you also consider training your staff on security?

  • Nearly 20% of all data breaches are caused by employee negligence, based on the 2015 Cost of Data Breach Study by the Ponemon Institute.
  • $217 is the average cost per lost or stolen record according to that same study, and typical breaches attack between 5,655 and 96,550 records meaning thousands of dollars lost.
  • 84% of employees are using personal email to send sensitive files.
  • More than 50% expose company files or data by uploading to a cloud-based service such as Dropbox or YouSendIt.

The best locks and security systems in the world do not stop an intruder from entering your house when someone opens the door and lets them in. That’s what training prevents. Can you afford to lose your valuable data or the hit on productivity because of downtime that could have been prevented?

Here’s a little story... Just this past weekend my Father-in-law called me to let me know that “Apple is controlling my computer and is installing software to keep my computer safe.” I responded, “Apple is controlling your computer? Did you call them?” He said, “No. A window came up that said I was infected and that they could help.”  I told him to quickly disconnect and explained, “As nice as those people sounded, that was not Apple, but someone attempting to gather personal information or install malicious software.” My Father-in-law is a smart man. Criminals are not targeting the unintelligent or the “more vulnerable.” They are preying on people like you and me. They victimize others with convincing strategies that really work. For example, would you notice a slight misspelling of an email address from a trusted friend, or would you, like everyone else, trust that Bob is sending you another one of those hilarious cat posts you love checking out over your break? Attacks can be that targeted. The tendency is to believe you are “too smart” and as a result, you feel shame once you are attacked. Don’t believe the lies. A victim is called a victim for a reason. You are smart, but that’s not the point. We are all vulnerable, but we are not helpless. Protect your company and protect your staff with training. Never pay the ransom.
